Dissecting Critical Climate Theory

by Lewis Loflin

What makes John Kerry an expert on anything? He is a rich atheist seeking to use fear-mongering to achieve power. Mr. Kerry is on as much of a religious crusade as any TV preacher. When wrong, he blames everybody else.

Mr Kerry is worth $250 million in 2023. His wife Teresa Heinz Kerry's net worth is estimated to be around $550 million. He will not redistribute his wealth or give up his carbon-spewing private jet.

Note the following images press reports.

Mr. Kerry is another crackpot in a long line of crackpots who come of age in the 1970s and Earth Day.

Religious and ideological people have one thing in common: Reality must pass through their ideological or spiritual lens. No matter how often environmental scare-mongering activists fail with their computer models, they are never held accountable. They change the preaching and move on.

Trying to have a strictly scientific discussion is futile. This issue is not about science. Evidence in 2023 shows no such mass melting of arctic summer sea ice as predicted for decades. That doesn't mean it won't happen because it has in the past.

What should be a strictly technical discussion has become a crusade exploiting well-meaning people through fear. Others seek relevance in the modern world where traditional religion is waning.

Humans seek purpose in their lives. Atheists, agnostics, and secular humanists seek that purpose through activism, and the money can be good, too. They seek causes to fill their emotional void.

Too many people have a useless college degree and are drowning in debt. Many are angry, believing the "system" let them down. "Climate change" has been hijacked to bring the system down.

In "'Big Earth energy': A new era of nature spirituality is here" by Michelle Boorstein notes that "27 percent of Americans say they are religiously unaffiliated." That includes "38 percent of those 18 to 29." She further notes 73% of Americans oppose "the fusing of religion and politics."

Yet Pope Francis who really doesn't seem to even be a traditional Catholic says,

...the historic 2015 church document 'Laudato Si' by Pope Francis that calls humans' abusive relationship with Earth a "rupture of sin."

Total rubbish. Much of this "nature-centered" pantheistic spiritualism is more New Age mysticism and has no place in government policies. This belief is a disconnect with reality. The climate-change industrial complex is a crusade costing $1.5 trillion annually. Members of the IPCC at the UN make it clear this is about wealth redistribution.

Climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth. - Ottmar Edenhofer

Noting what is happening today is no different than in the early 20th Century be it droughts or floods.

Ms. Boorstein further notes in her article,

“Profound natural spiritualities are spreading with alacrity around the world, especially since the [1970 founding of] Earth Day ... dozens of studies showing a growing body of evidence that experiences in nature produce their own kind of transcendence and awe. Subjects included environmental activists who see nature as sacred, scientists who see their spirituality tied to nature and the high correlation between people reporting feeling a 'sense of wonder about the universe' and being atheist or agnostic. The growth of secularism is also feeding it ... "as a breeding ground. ... ...the climate crisis has injected a sense of urgency around existential, spiritual questions and challenges. Even some secular environmental groups ... have begun doing spiritual-esque trainings meant to create space for grappling with anxiety and grief."

This pagan mysticism is also poisoning the minds of scientists that see human interaction with and altering nature as "sinful" to the point Nature "has rights." Again Ms. Boorstein writes on this silly New Age nonsense,

... but "Laudato Si" hasn't had the impact he had hoped ... faith-based environmental activists and experts, has found that renewed spiritual interest in nature doesn’t necessarily translate into action in support of specific policies or changed behaviors. ... there are more and more people concerned about climate change because more and more people are experiencing it. Now they're asking tougher questions: What does the science say? How does my faith inform my understanding of my place in the universe?"

How are people "experiencing" something that was normal before 1979? We had severe climate and weather events prior to that time. Anyone over 40 would know that. 18-year-olds today know little to nothing of events prior to 2000.

The rise of Critical Theory starting in the late 1930s invaded all aspects of our culture and has led to what can be called critical climate theory. It replaces objective science with subjective feelings. The interest is not the melting point of ice, but the social relationship of the water among "identity" groups.

No greater example of this issue being hijacked by socialists than with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. Their "New Green Deal" (April 22, 2019) advocates the following "social" solutions in addition to ruinous regulations to end capitalism:

It is comprised of $14 billion in new and committed investments, legislation and concrete action at the City level that will ensure a nearly 30 percent additional reduction in emissions by 2030. (but at what cost to who?) The laws and investments of New York City's Green New Deal will directly confront income inequality, generating tens of thousands of good-paying jobs retrofitting buildings and expanding renewable energy. (This is socialism.)

Promoting New Yorkers' health. The City will guarantee health care for every New Yorker, to create the most comprehensive, universal coverage in the nation for uninsured New Yorkers, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. The City will focus on ending the opioid epidemic and deploy engagement teams alongside first responders to support people with mental health and substance misuse needs.

Building a fairer city for all. The City will explore expanding the IDNYC municipal ID card to enable banking access for the more than 1 million underbanked New Yorkers; and will continue protecting tenants from displacement and supporting working New Yorkers by aggressively enforcing fair wage and work regulations.

This diverts attention from real health and safety hazards related to filth, needles, and feces in the streets, made more dangerous by the presence of the violent, mentally ill, and criminals.

This is climate socialism. The proposed solutions will only cause more inflation, resulting in more poverty. Climate change is an excuse to impose an agenda the far left has pushed for decades. This socialist crusade is what Pope Francis and many other religious leaders allude to. They reject actual technical solutions to the problems they claim are so pressing. They demand "social" solutions.

Science is under mass attack from "critical" science theory with "climate change" becoming a $1.5 trillion industry rigidly controlled global power players. It is play-along or no research grants or even termination from one's job. Many scientists compromise their integrity working for politicians such as Mr. Kerry.

In the article "Scientists Should Fight Postmodern Public Values" (October 20, 2016) Alex Berezow asks,

"How should scientists respond to the rising tide of anti-scientific sentiment in the world? The backlash against modern technology is widespread: Protests against genetic engineering, vaccines, chemicals, modern agriculture, neuroscience, nuclear power (and almost any other form of power), animal research, and embryonic stem cell research threaten to hold back, if not reverse, decades of progress. What can scientists do to address this problem?"

These attacks are mainly from the Left. Technology is a product of capitalism and Western Culture, thus not acceptable.

No surprise that climate change spiritualists are the same people attacking other branches of science that don't meet their social criteria.

Dr. Marcel Kuntz, Director of Research at the prominent French institution CNRS voices concern over this issue:

"... Postmodernism, a cultural and philosophical movement that the Encyclopedia Britannica describes as "characterized by broad skepticism, subjectivism, or relativism" combined with "a general suspicion of reason." In other words, Postmodernism is diametrically opposed to everything the scientific method stands for.

Postmodernism considers that scientists cannot be trusted, and that their research must be subject to a democratic process, more precisely to a 'participative democracy'."

Further:

Postmodernism is an ideology whose aim is to deconstruct Enlightenment values...

Enlightenment values are the basis of science.

Science Poisoned by Politics, Government Money

Climate activists with science degrees have predicted an ice-free Arctic for decades. The Arctic can certainly be ice-free one day because it has been before. Their "models" seem to be disconnected from reality. 2023 there will be more summer sea ice than in 1980, with far higher carbon dioxide levels.

Arctic sea ice cover September 1980 and 2005.
Arctic sea ice cover September 1980 and 2005.

Arctic sea ice cover July 17, 2023
Arctic sea ice cover July 17, 2023

Note that above Arctic sea ice in July 2023 is greater than September 2005 and 1980. By the end of September 2023 the extant will be even greater. This was not supposed to happen according to "climate scientists" and their vaunted computer models.

Why does this keep happening? What is this really about?

I dealt with Christian religious fundamentalists that claimed Jesus and the Rapture were due any day. They read their hopes and convictions into the Bible as opposed to applying reason to the literal text.

They were wrong with Y2K and these climate socialists and Gaia adherents are falling into the same trap. They discredit themselves then attack those that point it out.

They can play games with computer models and averages all they wish. Sea ice in the Arctic normally varies and there is zero proof based on the observed data the Arctic will be ice free any day. Again, that doesn't mean it won't happen because it has before.

How can this happen? A proper study of earth science will reveal that climate has always been variable. The last 2.5 million years have been chiefly ice ages; prior to that far warmer than today.

Again I will say caution because these predicted events have happened before regardless of cause.

The massive melting of continental-wide glaciers 12,000-20,000 years ago cannot be caused by humans. Nor the massive warning period 9,000-6,000 years ago.

The claim that all warming since 1750 resulted from human activity is unproven. A long cold period called the Little Ice Age ended at that time.

All computer models start with basic assumptions. Because of politics, they refuse to consider natural variation while ignoring evidence before 1979.

There was a sharp cooling period from ~1950-55 to 1979. Earlier temperature records are incomplete, covering mainly North America and Europe. Earlier data is ignored or adjusted-altered down through computer models.

The same computer models have predicted an ice-free Arctic for 50 years. In some years, the amount of sea ice grows, and in other years, the amount declines. That is normal.

But scientists say...

Quoting the www.thelancet.com Vol 385 April 11, 2015 Richard Horton wrote the following:

The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness...

To quote Dr. Patrick Moore founder of Greenpeace:

The collapse of world communism and the fall of the Berlin Wall during the 1980s ... The peace movement had been mainly Western-based and anti-American in its leanings. Many of its members moved into the environmental movement, bringing with them their neo-Marxist, far-left agendas. To a considerable extent the environmental movement was hijacked by political and social activists who learned to use green language to cloak agendas that had more to do with anticapitalism and antiglobalization than with science or ecology.
