When Eco-Mythology Replaces Science

Climate spiritualists turn every natural event into hysterics. Historical and proxy records record massive climate variation over the last 11,700 years. Note this study:

Holocene Treeline History and Climate Change Across Northern Eurasia
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 20 January 2017

Ref. https://doi.org/10.1006/qres.1999.2123 Abstract:

Radiocarbon-dated macrofossils are used to document Holocene treeline history across northern Russia (including Siberia). Boreal forest development in this region commenced by 10,000 yr B.P. Over most of Russia, forest advanced to or near the current arctic coastline between 9000 and 7000 yr B.P. and retreated to its present position by between 4000 and 3000 yr B.P. Forest establishment and retreat was roughly synchronous across most of northern Russia.

Treeline advance on the Kola Peninsula, however, appears to have occurred later than in other regions. During the period of maximum forest extension, the mean July temperatures along the northern coastline of Russia may have been 2.5° to 7.0°C warmer than modern. The development of forest and expansion of treeline likely reflects a number of complimentary environmental conditions, including heightened summer insolation, the demise of Eurasian ice sheets, reduced sea-ice cover, greater continentally with ecstatically lower sea level, and extreme Arctic penetration of warm North Atlantic waters. The late Holocene retreat of Eurasian treeline coincides with declining summer insolation, cooling arctic waters, and neoglaciation.

This is far greater than today or even projected and even if happening today is still not a crisis. Insolation is solar radiation which along with ocean currents is the driver of climate.

It is clear authors like Whitley Strieber, James Kunetka, and Bill McKibben were radical anti-human zealots advocating or hinting at mass reduction of the human population through government force and an end to modern technological society. McKibben is the worse as a fundamentalist preacher for a nature-centered spiritualism. Every prediction these authors made has failed. I own both books.

McKibben makes it clear that even replanting trees is not good enough. No alteration of the environment by man is allowed. We must prevent human influence on Nature at all costs.

Human beings are expendable in this fight. McKibben stated in a 2023 interview that the human population should be reduced to 3 billion. Our standard of living should be lowered to that of Mexico.

McKibben and his contemporaries, such as John Kerry and Al Gore, believe in this. His book "Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit" by Al Gore (1992, and I own this book too) is a pseudo-religious appeal to climate socialism as public policy.

To quote another writer at researchgate.net :

Religious traditions have little to say specifically about biodiversity, but they provide the values, worldviews, or environmental ethics that shape the way in which different societies interact with biological diversity and nature in general. In this sense, religion can be part of the problem or part of the solution.

This from the US Department of Education (https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ881792.pdf) is a violation of separation of religion and state. To quote,

Abstract - Environmental educators are beginning to consider how to incorporate religious resources into their curricula. Common concerns about religion pose a challenge for integration, but these concerns are manageable. Reflection on the precursors of environmental citizenship behaviour provides a framework for considering some of the ways that religious elements can enhance environmental education. Furthermore, faith-based environmental education programs have existed for decades, and their practices can suggest some starting points. Abundant ecotheology resources also exist, including environmental policy statements within most denominations. These resources can provide a common ground between religion and environmental education.

So-called "ecotheology" is religion and I will not stand for it. If this is the case then reinsert Bible study into the schools.

Until 2.5-3 million years ago the Arctic was mainly ice free. One silly news article claimed this was due to CO2 and railed on how dangerous humans are to the planet. The press is filled with these endless useless studies based on computer model speculation.

Greenland was 20 to 34 degrees Fahrenheit (11 to 19 degrees Celsius) higher than today according to a study below, Greenland abounded with life. CO2 levels were little different than today, but that is not what warmed the Arctic.

See Mastodons Roamed Greenland 2 Million Years Ago

If that writer knew anything about actual earth science he would know none of that had anything to do with CO2. The climate shift to arctic ice box zone was due to the closing of the Isthmus of Panama cutting off ocean current flows between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. That is when North America became connected to South America.

Climate is mainly controlled by ocean currents and unstable and unpredictable events such as El Niño and La Niña.

CO2 if produced by humans has become evil incarnate to the climate spiritualists. There is no basis in empirical science to make such claims. CO2 makes up 0.04% (400 ppm) of the atmosphere and 95-97% of emissions are from natural sources. CO2 IS NOT a pollutant. The oceans are not becoming acid and likely vary within a range. The studies don't go back far enough or have been done long enough to know exactly. Spare me computer model speculation.

Corals are not dying in mass due to "climate change" or CO2 or otherwise. When they first evolved during the Cambrian period 540 MYA the CO2 levels were 6,000-8,000 ppm or higher. They did just fine as did all the other life that appeared at that time. Computer models are not some all-knowing deity or a crystal ball used by climate magicians.

See Corals in a Warming World Causes for Optimism by Peter Ridd. This is a pdf file of 4.82 MB. Modern corals evolved ~200 million years ago and lived through far warmer periods than today.

The main problem for corals and the oceans in general are destructive fishing practices and massive pollution from Asian nations. Why don't we address that? No, they seek some spiritual, nature centered worldview and socialist economic system. It's a religion, a secular humanist one, with a little Marx thrown in.

One of the defining features of religion is that your beliefs are not troubled by facts, because they have nothing to do with facts. - Michael Crichton

I think that you cannot eliminate religion from the psyche of mankind. If you suppress it in one form, it merely re-emerges in another form. You can not believe in God, but you still have to believe in something that gives meaning to your life, and shapes your sense of the world. Such a belief is religious...

What we need is a new organization much closer to the FDA. We need an organization that will be ruthless about acquiring verifiable results, that will fund identical research projects to more than one group, and that will make everybody in this field get honest fast...
